The Council for Social Development works with the vision of a just, equitable and responsible society. CSD has the responsibility of carrying forward the legacy of Dr Durgabai Deshmukh, a legendary freedom fighter and a pioneer in the field of social development. Through our research and training activities, we have tried to contribute to the policy debates as well as formulation of policies and designing of programmes and build capacity in the areas of social development, particularly education, health, rural development, environment and social justice. In the coming years, we intend to persist with our endeavours towards promoting human development in India and beyond through research and dialogues. In this regard, we are dedicated to the socially and economically disadvantaged groups — dalits, adivasis, minorities, women, children, poor farmers and workers in the unorganised sector. As a social science research institute recognised by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, we are committed to adopt an inclusive approach and we would like to work with all stakeholders including fellow research institutes, government institutions, civil society organizations, and international organizations.
