Currently, he is the Director of Council for Social Development, New Delhi – a premier research institute working on issues of social development. Previously, he worked at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), CUTS International, and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). Since the time of his tenure at TERI, he has also been teaching as a guest faculty at the TERI School of Advanced Studies – a deemed university, where he also serves as a member of the board of management. He graduated from the University of Calcutta and completed his master’s and Ph. D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
He has worked on consulting assignments from several UN organizations, including UNCTAD, UNESCAP, UNDP and UNEP and other agencies like the World Bank and the European Commission. He has also been a consultant for different government ministries and agencies in India and contributed to formulating policies including as a member of committee/working group/advisory group formed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and the NITI Aayog.
He has about 130 research publications including in peer-reviewed journals and as book chapters and monographs. He has written several articles for various newspapers and magazines as well.
