Vision

The Council's vision is the attainment of the goal of "Antyodaya" or "wiping every tear from every eye" set before the nation by Mahatma Gandhi. The best route towards achievement of this vision is to contribute to the amelioration of the plight of the poorest, deprived and marginalised sections of the population. To begin with, the CSD will concentrate on the conditions of the lives of the lowest two deciles of the Indian population and the regions, areas and communities where the poorest are concentrated. This translates itself, among others, into programmes to reduce and eradicate poverty and to investigate with a view to recommending remedial measures, the problems in drought/starvation prone areas.
