The Council for Social Development has a functioning library since its establishment in 1962. It was reorganized in 1998 and named as Professor Amar Kumar Singh Library to perpetuate the memory of late Professor Amar Kumar Singh, former Executive Chairperson of CSD. The library is air-conditioned and located in the basement of the main building. It remains open from 9.30 am–5.30 pm on all working days (Monday to Friday). It is mainly to cater to the needs of its own faculty and researchers, but outsiders are also allowed with special permission.

The library collection is in Social Sciences and Humanities and is housed subject-wise. It has a total of 10000 (ten thousand) books—classics and contemporary. It subscribes to 2 journals and 8 periodicals, 16 daily newspapers and two online databases- Economic and Political Weekly and THE HINDU Newspaper Digital Edition.

The library operations have been automated using LIBMAN— an integrated library software. It maintains catalogue (database) of Books, SOCIAL CHANGE Articles, Reports and Periodicals on a regular basis, accessible through the Council’s Local Area Network (LAN). The library is an Institutional member of DELNET  and a Corporate Member of the Central Secretariat Library, New Delhi.

The library serves the vital support needs of researchers and trainees in the area of Social Sciences and provides the following services:

  • Reference Service
  • Bibliographic Service
  • Inter-library Loan Facility through DELNET
  • Xerox facility managed by a private operator is available in the library on payment basis for outsider.
